On July 17, 2025, the Georg-August University of Göttingen awarded the title of a honorary doctor to Professor István Varga, Head of the Department of Civil Procedure at ELTE Faculty of Law and Managing Partner of PROVARIS Varga & Partners.

One of Germany’s and the world’s most traditional universities has awarded the rarely conferred title of “Doctor Iuris Honoris Causa” to István Varga in recognition of his internationally renowned work in legal scholarship and practice, particularly in civil procedure and arbitration, as well as his efforts to deepen Hungarian-German relations in science and higher education.

István Varga’s inaugural lecture, entitled ” Justizgewährungsanspruch – EuGH als gesetzlicher Richter – Rechtsstaatlichkeit: Eine kritische Betrachtung postmoderner Präzedenzfallsysteme” delivered in the Aula of the University of Göttingen in front of the university’s professors and students, will soon be available here:
